Dr Sophie Wharrie is a research fellow at the University of Melbourne, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), applied mathematics and statistics, and computational technologies for large-scale biological data.

Dr Wharrie completed her PhD (Doctor of Technology, Computer Science) at Aalto University, Finland, on probabilistic machine learning and deep learning for health and genetics. As a doctoral researcher at the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI), she led international research projects developing machine learning technologies for personalized medicine applications, utilising genetics biobanks and nationwide electronic health record data.
