Did you know that only around 20% of all biographies on Wikipedia are about women?

To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science👩‍🔬, MACSYS hosted a Wikipedia Edit‑a‑thon to help address this imbalance by improving and creating pages about women in STEM.

This hybrid event brought together participants from across our Centre:
📍 The University of Melbourne (with Monash members joining in person)
📍 UNSW Sydney
💻 And online contributors from ANU and QUT

The session was an energising first step, giving participants hands‑on experience with the editing process and highlighting the importance of improving representation in open knowledge platforms.

The event was organised by our Equity, People, and Culture Committee. We look forward to hosting more of these events to keep building momentum and increasing the visibility of women in STEM.
