MACSYS was proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2025 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance (ATSIMA) Conference. Held on beautiful Lunawuni (Bruny Island), Lutruwita (Tasmania), ATSIMA 2025 brought together educators, leaders, and community members to celebrate and strengthen Indigenous approaches to mathematics education.

MACSYS Director Trevor Lithgow addressed attendees, reaffirming our Centre’s commitment to ATSIMA: “We are striving to help support ATSIMA’s mission to create a revolution in the teaching and learning of mathematics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.”

This year’s theme, palawa kani pumili waranta rrala – Our Language Our Strength – highlighted the deep connection between language and learning. A powerful moment came from Uncle Rodney Dillon, a respected Elder of the Palawa Nation, who shared the story behind the acquisition of Murray Field, the site of this year’s gathering.

Trevor also caught up with ATSIMA CEO Prof. Chris Matthews – a valued member of the MACSYS Governance Advisory Board. A special thanks to Monash Node Administrator Veronica Lay, for her support and presence throughout the conference.
