Is antibacterial or regular hand soap best for killing germs?
MACSYS Associate Investigator Dr Francesca Short was featured in this insightful ABC News story on hand hygiene and antibacterial soap.
Dr Short’s research shows that products labelled “antibacterial” aren’t necessarily more effective than plain soap and water at preventing illness – and that labelling isn’t a reliable indicator of whether antimicrobial additives are even present. Dr Short is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at Monash University’s Centre to Impact Antimicrobial Resistance.
