MACSYS Theme 1 Workshop @ QUT

MACSYS Theme 1 Workshop @ QUT
Workshop in Mathematical, Statistical and Computational Foundations of Whole Cell Modelling
- Leaders: Chris Drovandi, Lan Nguyen
- Location: QUT Gardens Point Campus: Owen J. Wordsworth Room, S Block, Level 12
Vision and Overarching Goal of Theme 1: To develop the core mathematical, statistical, computational, and biophysical approaches needed for the automated construction and analysis of large-scale, whole-cell models. That is, Theme 1 builds the ‘brain’ of MACSYS: the mathematical and computational tools that make realistic and predictive whole-cell models possible. Moving from models with ~400 genes (e.g., Mycoplasma) to organisms with over 4,000 genes (E. coli, B. subtilis) requires a monumental leap in foundational methods. We are also interested in addressing the mathematical, statistical and computational sub-problems that arise from this overarching challenge.
Aims of Theme 1 Workshop: To bring together people from across disciplines who identify with the Foundations research theme to:
- discuss ongoing MACSYS activities; papers that have been published, have been submitted or are currently being written
- identify activity that should be ignited in the theme
- spot and work on how to deal with issues getting in the way of theme progress
Structure of the Theme 1 Workshop: Across 2 days, MACSYS members and partners will be invited to collaborate in-person. Partners will have the opportunity to hear from MACSYS researchers and participate in feedback sessions and smaller group discussions. There will be a focus on generating and collating insights and sparking new research conversations. MACSYS will be planning and designing sessions to encourage involvement from partners.
